Senegal is one of west Africa’s most loved and visited countries. With a wide array of places to explore, the holidaying traveller has much to see and do, with a plethora of options to choose from. A must visit destination is Cap Vert, or Cabo Verde or Cape Green as it was known to the Portuguese many years ago. Not to be confused with the Cape Verde Islands which are further west, Cap Vert is a peninsula in Senegal and has the country’s capital city of Dakar lying at its southernmost tip.

This peninsula is curiously shaped like a triangle and its other features have been formed by an intriguing combination of offshore volcanic islands and a land bridge that has been formed by coastal currents. With Dakar at the south end of the triangle, its international airport lies at the north western tip of the Cap near Pointe des Almadies, while the two volcanic cones, known at the ‘Two Teats’ are a dominating feature in the north west of the peninsula. With these imposing landmarks and natural spectacles, Cap Vert is undoubtedly a favourite place amongst travellers who eagerly seek out the peninsula’s stunning beaches and glorious rays of sun.

Cap Vert, furthermore, has a beautiful bay and natural harbour, which makes it possible for holidaymakers to enjoy a number of terrific water sports. The Cap is in close proximity to many Senegalese attractions with one of the top draw cards being the Island of Goree, which was used as a base from which to transfer slaves on to slave ships that were headed for the Americas. The undulating and prosperous scenic splendour of Cap Vert makes any vacation a wonderful and fun-filled prospect.
