Most visitors to central Knysna think they would love to live here as it is the closest thing to a seaside paradise. Regularly voted the cleanest town in South Africa, Knysna is known as the Jewel of the Garden Route. The Garden Route is an enchanting coastal region and one of the country’s greatest attractions.

People are attracted to Knysna’s natural settings, surrounded by an estuary, forests, lakes and the impressive sandstone cliffs, known as the Heads, on either end of the river mouth. The town itself is upbeat and vibrant with elegant shopping malls, old stone churches, chic restaurants and modern marinas.

For those who are a little adventurous and enjoy the company of other travellers, you can decide to stay at a Backpackers. Often having to share a room with others as well as costs, it is incredibly inexpensive. Often the best choice for those who may be just passing through or will be occupied for the majority of their day. It comes with the most basic amenities and is often formed as part of a bar or similar establishment. Not recommended for those who want privacy, this is best suited for those who wouldn’t mind meeting various other interesting travellers.
