From the wide stretches of acacia savannah, to the eastern slopes of the Lebombo Mountains along its eastern boundary, from the variety of woodlands to the swamps, the rich diversity of Mkuze is astonishing.
Mkuze lies in the South African Province of KwaZulu Natal and what makes this reserve outstanding compared to all the other reserves in the vicinity is that it is flat with grasslands, wetlands, fossil pans and sand dunes. There is also a rare type of sand forest that occurs in this reserve.
There are many attractions which include game-viewing, bird watching and a bush-veld trail. The diverse habitats home a great variety of wildlife and is one of the few private reserves where one can find the Big 5 - lion, leopard, buffalo, rhino, and elephant. There are also rare species that occur in the reserve such as cheetah, hyena and suni. Mkuze celebrates the thrill of nature through its tasteful and delightful way, giving home to more than 420 species of birds such as the Narina Trogon, Purple-crested Lourie, Giant Kingfisher and the Fish Eagle.
