More info about Oudtshoorn

The small village of Oudtshoorn is located in the Klein Karoo about 50 km from the large coastal town of George along the Garden Route. This town with its wide open spaces and broad streets is the capital of the Klein Karoo. Oudtshoorn is spread along both banks of the Grobbelaars River, a tributary of the Oliphant's River, and its fertile valleys are encompassed by the Outeniqua Mountains to the south and the Swartberg mountains to the north. Warm, dry summers and sunny winter days make it the ideal breeding ground for the most majestic of flightless birds, the ostrich.

Oudtshoorn has many great attractions, the Cango Caves: is one of the worlds great natural wonders, sculptured by nature through the ages. Mysterious and breathtaking limestone formations in a wide variety of natural colours, a subterranean wonderland.

425 ostrich farms surround Oudtshoorn , 3 have distinguished themselves worthy to be named " show farms". Become exposed to this exotic bird species, the largest in the world. Gaze with the awe at the slithering reptiles species from all over the world, 400 crocodiles and alligators at the crocodile farm. See the cheetahs at the breeding station. Waterfalls abound, visitors are fortunate to safely visit two examples at the Vrede and Meiringspoort falls.
