The legendary city of Cape Town like any famous city has a distinctive divide that separates it into the Southern and Northern suburbs. While distinctions are usually made in the form of physical landmarks, Capetonians will tell you that what separates the north from the south is an imaginary line they call the ‘Boerewors Curtain’; while language appears to be a dividing factor – in the north they speak Afrikaans and down south they speak English – this is generally considered a sweeping generalisation these days. The northern suburbs of Cape Town are officially part of the City of Tygerberg, which includes the municipalities of Parow, Bellville, Goodwood, and Durbanville.
The city of Tygerberg as a result of this eclectic and diverse group of municipalities features some of the very best towns and suburbs in the north. Besides being blessed with a contrasting and riveting natural beauty, the Tygerberg district is also home to a number of Cape Town’s finest attractions. For the serious shopper amongst you, Tygerberg boasts a number of outstanding shopping complexes guaranteed to make your head spin. The outrageous Canal Walk in Century City is undoubtedly the pick of these and offers a mouth watering selection of chain stores, boutiques, fast food outlets and other eateries, cafes and bistros, entertainment amenities, luxury brands, and so much more. If this isn’t enough, the Tygervalley Shopping Centre near Durbanville and Plattekloof is a fantastic mall, while N1City near Goodwood and Parow has a games arcade that is immensely popular amongst the kids.
Other noteworthy attractions within the City of Tygerberg includes the sumptuous Durbanville Wine Route, the natural splendours of the fabulous Tygerberg Nature Reserve, the recently revamped terminals of the Cape Town International Airport, and last but definitely not least the outlandish gaming haven of Grand West Casino, which offers an entertainment experience to salivate over.
