We had awesome few days at Utshwayelo. The camp site was great, a large site & pretty secluded with the reed fencing separating the sites from each other. The bathrooms were very clean & the open air shower was awesome, hot water, good water pressure - we couldn’t complain. The honesty bar was stocked with basic drinks. A little shop selling basic supplies would’ve been a bonus but perhaps during covid times we shouldn’t have expected that.
Access to the estuary was easy and the snorkeling in the estuary & in the ocean right there was great.
We did a guided hike through the area walking through 5 eco systems which was amazing - a bit tough at times, negotiating through the swamps & the steep dune climb, but well worth the effort.
The boat trip through the 3 lakes of Kosi was also amazing to do - a must do if visiting this area.
This is a place we will definitely be revisiting in the future.

We had a quiet and relaxing time. The camp site is secure and private. The staff was very friendly and helpful with all our enquiries. We enjoyed the hike downhill to the river mouth and the three lakes boat cruise. We just regret that we had only booked two nights, we wished to stay longer.

We spent 4 nights at the lodge, staying in the chalets and safari tent with kitchenette. Facilities are rustic but very comfortable and the absolute highlight was the outdoor shower looking up to the trees and the stars! The lodge has a lovely atmosphere with friendly and helpful staff. Kosi Bay is a beautiful place, we recommend the boat trip on the lakes where you can see bird life, hippos, the local traditional fish traps and even snorkel to see some of the underwater life. The trip to Kosi mouth is also a must but a good 4 x 4 is needed. The snorkeling at the mouth is amazing! In a shallow sandy reef are hundreds of fish of many types, all sizes and colours and even some eels lurking in the rocks. An unbelievable outdoor aquarium. If you love exploring nature we would highly recommend this trip.

I spent a day in this wonderful area in Mike and his family lodge. Lodge literally at the entrance of the World heritage UNESCO Kosi Bay Mouth (although quite hidden when you drive from Mozambique - almost missed it), surely the best located in the area among the lodges, they also have exclusive access to the protected areas since they work in symbiosis with the local traditional people from neighboring villages. The area is just by the border of Mozambique, at the estuary of the famous Kosi Bay Lakes and is a must-see if you spend some time in KZN. Mike’s family was extremely welcoming and forth seeing to make my short stay as enjoyable as possible. Great expweience.
