As you approach the cliffs edge you glimpse the horizon that fades into a cloud of dust and you see below hundreds, if not thousands of black and white stripes contending for a craving sip of water.

Some of Botswana’s most impressive wildlife concentrations occur along the river during the dry season and includes large herds of zebra and wildebeest, antelope, elephant, White rhino, predators, giraffe, hippo, crocodile, and many bird species. A number of resident species do not migrate away at the onset of the rains and so the Boteti area maintains a population of wildlife all year round.

At the heart of the camp is the mess tent and wildlife viewing areas.

Outside there’s a lovely plunge pool created from natural rock formations, which overlooks the river.

The wildlife viewing area is undoubtedly the reason for coming to Meno A Kwena and arguably the best view that Botswana has to offer.

Meno a Kwena is a short distance from the Makgadikgadi National Park. The eight tents are ranged along the riverbank, which attracts animals such as zebra, wildebeest, elephant, giraffe, antelope, a variety of predators and varied bird life. You can watch the ever-changing scenes from the privacy of your own room.

A number of resident species do not migrate away at the onset of the rains and so the Boteti area maintains a population of wildlife all year round.

For yet another fantastic safari experience, spend a lazy day in camp in our floating viewing hide for an unobtrusive game viewing experience and incredible photographic opportunities. The twenty five square metre floating vessel is within walking distance of camp while further reducing negative impact on the environment.

Meno and the experiences we offer are ideal for families and children. The guiding technique involves touching, tasting, looking and discussing, which works well for children who are keen to learn about the environment.

Travel deep into the saltpans to experience a vast, open lifeless land and go looking for Meerkats warming themselves in the morning sun. Minimum 3 night stay between June to October required to participate.

The camp itself is beautifully decorated with wooden trunks, brass and copper wash basins and shower urns, carvings and natural items like skulls and horns

At the heart of the camp is the mess tent and wildlife viewing areas. Included under canvas are the dining room and library, where you can catch up on bygone safari history and natural history reading.

Our day trips include a proper lunch with your beverages of choice, a variety of salads, cold meats, freshly prepared quiches and breads to satisfy any taste.

The canvas tented safari camp accommodates guests in 10 tents - 6 twins, each with 2 queen size beds, 2 doubles, each with a king size bed and 2 family units. The camp is ideally located in full view of exciting wildlife activity at the river in front of camp. Southern Africa’s largest zebra and wildebeest migration concentrates at the river during the dry season (May to November).

In Room Facilities:

Each fully serviced tent has its own private bathroom with flush toilet and authentic safari bucket shower. The emphasis of the camp accommodation layout is to maximise the extraordinary views over the river and national park while maintaining attention to detail comfort.

Area Information:

The river brings Okavango Delta overflow through Meno a Kwena to Lake Xau and the Makgadikgadi Saltpans on the edge of Central Kalahari Game Reserve. This natural phenomenon occurs on a 40 year cycle when we experience higher than average rainfall in the region.

The impact of higher than average water levels in the Okavango Delta causes a mass exodus of wildlife from the inundated floodplains to the fringe edges including – Khwai, Selinda, Mababe, Savute, Santawani and Boteti Rivers. It is estimated these conditions will persist for another two to three decades.

The ‘living area’ – dining, lounge and public rest room, kitchen, bar, library, curio shop, viewing tents and swimming pool, is considered ‘a work of organic architecture’. The style of decor certainly is very unique and based on a historical account of safaris and African culture.
