Area Information:Grahamstown known as the heart of Frontier Country is situated in the Eastern Cape. Also known as the City of Saints due to the plethora of churches in the city. Grahamstown is most famous for its annual arts festival first held in 1974 and still attracting thousands of visitors each year. Grahamastown was founded in 1812 as a military outpost. The town flourished in the 1820's as many settlers left farming to establish themselves in more secure trades. In 1904 Rhodes University was established and today provides world class education to over 6000 students each year. Known as the city of saints, Grahamstown is home to more than 52 religious buildings. The St Michael and St George cathedral is the seat of the Anglican Diocese of Grahamstown.
Grahamstown is well known for its unpredictable but lovely weather, as it lies at the intersection of four very different climatic zones. This adds to the excitement when 1000's of visitors descend on the city each year for the Cultural Arts Festival. Grahamstown has retained its small town Victorian appeal with broad tree lined streets, authentic historical buildings, museums and churches.
Nature lovers will be delighted by the Thomas Baines Nature Reserve and Great Fish River Reserve lying just outside the city and providing an abundance of bird life.
Tourists are treated to a vast variety of cuisine at many restaurants the town has to offer. From country home hospitality to fine dining, there is something for all tastes.

Reviews
Our stay in the Whitehouse was so serene, so natural, soul massaging. Seasoned with beautiful birds songs.. Warm welcoming by the host Jolandi. What an inviting cleanliness, both the room and its cushioning bed with electric blanket and a wonderful torture room (gym). What a pallatable breakfast...thank you Jolandi for your friendliness.
Aspiring to revisit very soon.
I will surely recommend the Whitehouse to my friends and family.

Grahamstown Reviews
The Old buildings, the stunning churches and Cathedral, the history and the National Arts Festial.
The roads are full of potholes, everything closes very early during the weekend.
During fest, the Long table is a very good place for dinner!
Grahamstown is a lovely town but the terrible potholes and lack of water in town is a huge problem for visitors and residents alike. My sons are students at Rhodes University and struggle immensely with the bad water supply and as they call it "water shedding" as they sometimes go up to three days days at a time without water
Old world charm and quietness.
Beautiful old buildings to visit! The terrible streets full of potholes make this 5 star town unfortunately a 3 star place!
Beautiful historic buildings! Friendly people!
Kwantu, thats all I can say, Kwantu is my favourite place in Grahamstown by far!!!
Cathedral, monument and building.
The roads are bad though.
The weather and vegetation.
I like it around town of Grahamstown.
Historical buildings
