Venda, the Land of Legend. Pafuri Rivercamp is situated at the top end of the former homeland Venda, now incorporated into the new South Africa. Venda remains a unique area, with an intriguing culture and a diverse landscape. Pafuri Rivercamp is very close to the Pafuri gate in the Northern Kruger National park. Most of the land around is communal, so one is free to explore without the fear of trespassing.

Pafuri Rivercamp accommodates a maximum of 28 people. Sites are arranged to suit groups from 2 to 8 people, in total privacy. Linen, towels and toiletries are supplied. Each site has a fully equipped kitchen, toilet, shower, braai area and private access to the Mutale river. Private camping site also available.

There is no electricity, we use paraffin lamps for light, open fires for cooking and gas powered fridges. A few other things we don't have are; crime, concrete, noise and pollution. Your cell phone won't work here either. What we do offer is; wide open skies, peace, quiet, the freedom to explore and good service in a friendly and informal atmosphere. There is a central lapa where delicious bushcamp meals are served (please book in advance) and a small pub next to the pool selling ice cold drinks. Unwind; come live in the bush for a while!

South of the Soutpansberg, the high rainfall supports thick forests, tea, coffee and tropical fruit plantations. It feeds many waterfalls, rivers, dams and the sacred lake of Fundudzi. In contrast the North is generally arid with the exception of the river valleys and areas surrounding the natural springs.
Places of interest include: Mavhilani potholes; Makuya park; Kruger park; Nwanedi park; The Big Tree; The cycad forest; Lake Fundudzi; The Sacred forest; Limpopo valley; Tshiovhovhovho falls; Dzata ruins; Local arts and craft markets; Fruit markets; Local shebeens; Thula Mela; Dambali caves and Bushman paintings;Sagole hot spring.

Whilst not essential, a 4x4 vehicle is recommended for exploring Venda.
Hikes: Use us as a base, a start or finishing point. A beautiful area for the more adventurous hiker. There are no marked trails, but you are free to roam the area and camp almost anywhere. We have excellent maps of the region and can advise you on routes.

Activities on offer:

Mountain Biking: Once again marked trails are not our style. The varied terrain combined with the freedom to move where ever you want, makes this area ideal for biking.

Relaxing: What most people do once they get here. Why don't you try? Come live in the bush for a while!

I think the place is fantastic
They should fix the road to the camp a bit
signage to the camp not adequate
internet pictures showed waterfalls and fishing
the fishing is 40km away to far
I was some how under the impression the camp site was electrified
The host were a lot of fun and interacted a lot
the swimming pool was beatifully cool a life saver in that heat
and Oh did we enjoy the supper
thanks
Peter

6 of us stayed at Pafuri in December and had a fantastic time. The accommodation is what is says on the tin, basic but extremely good. The hospitality was exceptional, everyone had time for us and could not do enough to help. We had dinner with all the other guests and the food was very good. Were advised to look out for scorpions, but didn't see one. HAve a walk along the river in the early morning, a real joy!!

We were surprised to find the lodge just outside the Kruger Park (% km), but still enjoyed it as it is in a rural setting along a river bank. The rustic accommodation works well. Pity about the generator on the opposite bank.

We spent 6 days at Pafuri River Camp over Easter with 3 families. We had a lot of laughs around the cosy bush bar, and also got to experience the TRUE bush in ways that not many people will get the chance to do. The kids had a blast running around freely and learnt a lot about nature. Thanks to the friendly staff, and especially Robert the chef, who catered some awesome food made in a bush kitchen. In short - seriously relaxing - World class!! We will be back soon.
