Located on a steep hill, overlooking Montagu's town center, and on the border of the Kanonkop reserve, the environmentally conscious and ecologically responsible Mountain View Lodge Montagu was built in 2013 on a property called "hooggenoeg" or "high enough" in free translation. The lodge was inspired by both European monasteries and African traditional architecture.
At the Mountain View Lodge, privacy is a top priority, and guests can relax and enjoy the spectacular mountain views. The lodge is almost completely hidden from the street, and its location is monitored and secured 24 hours a day. Guests can take a short walk to Montagu's town center from the lodge.
This eco-award-winning property has seven individually decorated rooms, each with garden views. Rooms are equipped with a king-size bed, a fan, a dressing, and a safety deposit box. The private bathroom has a shower with free toiletries. Two of the rooms have interconnecting doors and can be converted into a family room for up to four people.
The lodge features a seasonal heated outdoor swimming pool and a deck with a view of the town and valley. The Belgian Restaurant at Mountain View Lodge serves traditional Belgian and South African cuisine by reservation. The bar has a wide variety of Belgian, imported, and local beers, as well as a collection of local wines. There are many nearby attractions, including wine tasting at the wine farms along Route 62, river trips on the authentic River Goose, mountain bike routes, and hiking. The Montagu Golf Course is just a 4-minute drive away. The lodge also offers free Wi-Fi and private parking. Guests can book chauffeur-driven trips, including wine tasting tours, big 5 game drives, city, and off-road trips. Cape Town International Airport is 182 km from the property, Montagu Hot Springs only 2 km, and Robertson less than 30 km away.
The lodge is registered as an eco-accommodation and has received several awards and recommendations for its ecological responsibility. The lodge recycles and filters shower and basin water for irrigation and flushing toilets, and tumble dryers have been banned to reduce energy use. The rooms are ecologically designed and naturally insulated to keep temperatures stable. A natural cool airflow is created in a rear corridor, and the lodge has no air conditioners or additional refrigerators in the rooms. Laundry is done using ecologically responsible soaps only.

Montagu lies nestled between the Langeberg and Riviersonderend mountain ranges. The village offer a perfect halfway stop between Cape Town and the Garden Route. Robertson Wine Route is on our doorstep, and might be the best kept secret in South Africa. The general perception is that the Wine Routes closer Cape Town offers the best Wine Route experience, but in this Wine Route one can taste wine on a barge, have sundowners on the river and even have dinner served while drifting soundlessly down stream. Visit our suggestions for a four day stay in Montagu and discover the "magic" of this historical village.

Excellent in all respects. Hostess Maud so welcoming.
Very enjoyable and pleasant stay. The bed is very comfortable, bathroom is convenient. All you need for a long weekend. The room and actually the whole property is very well maintained and spotless clean. Although otherwise published, we were able to enjoy some Belgian Beers in the bar, with thanks to the helpful hosts. The cousy open fire in the evening was a very nice bonus. Furthermore breakfast was excellent and we had a fantastic weekend!
We really enjoyed our one night stay at the Mountain View Lodge in Montagu and wished we could have stayed longer! It was comfortable, peaceful, quite homely, and clean. Good breakfast too! Surrounding countryside really beautiful. All in all, we have nothing to complain about! Our warm thanks to our hosts at the Mountain View Lodge for making our stay memorable.

The tranquility, historical few places, cleanliness and friendly inhabitants.
Came up to Montagu for a climbing course with Blue Mountain Adventures and stayed at the Tolhuis with two friends. It was just perfect. Firstly the location, it was only mere meters away from our first day's location for climbing , LEGOLAND. We could literally stop and walk up to our accommodation for a coffee and lunch break! The place itself was just perfect for the 3 of us. Great little braai area where we enjoyed our evenings and the place is simple and humble yet stylish! The hosts, Michelle, Ivan, and Jason their 6-month-old puppy were just very warm and accommodating. Thank you!
Climbing at Lego Land, Hiking, and cycling (there is a little history town cycle tour).
