This modern-day explorer’s tented camp is situated under a cool canopy of magnificent trees of island forest, a calming welcome after the hustle and bustle of busy Victoria Falls International Airport. This intimate camp has only 16 guests on safari and is uniquely personable.
In Room Facilities:The large airy safari tents are nestled on the edge of the island on the banks of the Zambezi River under the shade of the deep forest. Each tent has a small covered verandah set on the river’s edge and looks directly across to the Zambezi National Park on the mainland. Wildlife frequents the water’s edge in the late afternoon and early morning. The en-suite bathrooms have a large indoor shower and a separate outdoor shower.
Area Information:Tsowa Island is situated in the Zambezi National Park, a 56 000 ha game reserve which is also a renowned birding
hot spot of 400 different species and home to the Big 5. Zambezi National Park stretches from the Victoria Falls
approximately 50 km upstream.
Tsowa Island is 1.5 km long and 400m wide and is dissected by a small river where a pair of Pel’s Fishing Owls reside.
The island, which has never been inhabited, is fringed by lush forests while the mainland is riverine woodland with
natural spring lines which are hidden gems used by wildlife. The park is home to lion, elephant, buffalo, giraffe,
sable and numerous antelope. This scenically beautiful area is popular for both landscape and wildlife photography.
It is a particularly scenic game reserve for guided walking.
Stretch Bedouin tents with timber frames and sides on wooden decks situated under massive Jackalberry trees, overlooking the Zambezi River. The area comprises a lounge and dining area for 16 guests.
The bar tent is adjacent to this main living area. The outside deck area, which is also in the cool forest, has a dining area flowing onto a sunken firepit which overlooks the river. The main area is linked to the pool area which overlooks the river and is situated in a sunny spot.
This small intimate camp offers an authentic wilderness experience with the comforts of a modern-day explorer’s camp, emphasis on personal service and a range of water and land-based activities run by local knowledgeable guides. The camp will appeal to guests wanting an intimate and personal safari experience in a small camp with specialized guides.
