Glenashley serves as an excellent and quick commute for the businessman who doesn’t want to stay within the heart of the city, and needs swift access to the multinational corporates and businesses that have moved north of Durban’s old Central Business District (downtown) to set up business in the modern business parks with enviable coastal views.
The Virginia Airport is virtually on Glenashley’s doorstep, yet another reason for staying here. You’re close to the Beachwood Mangroves Nature Reserve here, on the north bank of the Umgeni or Umgeni River. The area is a natural haven and used as an education centre for nature conservation. Many a school outing is planned for the black, red and white mangrove swamp, its sea snails, creeping plants and magnificent bird life that includes the mangrove kingfisher and Natal nightjar if you’re lucky.
Umhlanga’s Gateway shopping mall provides hours of entertainment and shopping and, if the beaches no longer hold an attraction for you, then the Sibaya and Suncoast casinos are both close enough for a day’s outing.
