An island known as a hideaway for pirates and Arab merchants, Praslin still maintains the allure of centuries ago. From the exhilarating beaches, mysterious forests and unusual flora and fauna to be seen in Valée de Mai, you will not cease to be amazed. General Gordon (of Khartoum) even believed that the Valée de Mai was the Biblical ‘Garden of Eden’. It was declared a World Heritage Site in 1984 for the exquisite and unique flora and fauna residing there. Praslin Island is surrounded by coral reef believed to be six to eight thousand years old. The waters teem with an abundance of colours, shapes and life as it is home to approximately 900 species of fish.
